Oxford

Oxford is famous as one of the oldest and most beautiful university cities in the world. There are beautiful parks where you can relax or play sports and two rivers if you like boating. There are plenty of theatres in Oxford offering ballet, opera, drama and comedy so there's something for everyone. Shopping in Oxford is great too with plenty of choice whatever your taste.
When it comes to eating out or having a drink with friends, you will find restaurants and pubs for all ages and tastes from cheap and cheerful student options to the most elegant and of course, expensive! Many eating places also have live music too.
During the year there are a number of festivals, such as: the May Day celebrations, Eights Week (Oxford University boat races), Oxford Balloon fiesta, Encaenia, Cowley Road Carnival, St Giles Fair, Bonfire Night and Christmas Lights. You might be lucky enough to be here when there's something special happening - but actually, every day is special in Oxford!

Eckersley School of English

The school has been in Oxford since John Eckersley founded it more than 50 years ago. The Eckersley Oxford team is there to ensure that your course is the very best one for you.
The school’s long tradition combines with a 21st century approach and state-of-the-art facilities. It has interactive whiteboards in many rooms, a brand new digital language laboratory and computer room and, of course, wireless access from just about everywhere in the building. The staff, both in the classrooms and in the offices are dedicated professionals, there to welcome you and to ensure that your experience with Eckersley is the best possible for you.
Eckersley Oxford is well-known for its friendly, family atmosphere and many of its students have made lifelong friends with people they met in class or at the great social events.

Update your knowledge of teaching and share ideas with teachers from around the world!

These courses are designed to offer a language and methodology ‘update’ for English Language Teachers in the public and private sectors.

Our aim is that, at the end of the course, you will return to your classrooms refreshed, enthusiastic and keen to try out new ways of teaching. The morning sessions are generally theory-based offering background and support to the topic under discussion. Participants are invited to contribute fully; these are not lectures but workshops! There are four afternoon sessions each week focusing on practical applications for the ideas discussed during the morning sessions. The afternoons will be in a small group format where participants will be collaborating to reinforce ideas from the morning workshops. Friday afternoons are free for you to explore Oxford on your own or with other students.

As with all our courses, the content of sessions will be tailored to meet the needs of the individual course participants. The aim is to give you more confidence to try out different teaching ideas and experiment with different methodologies, and to renew or enhance your enthusiasm for the teaching profession. You'll read articles about teaching, try out activities and approaches, use different teaching tools of all kinds, improve your own language skills, and above all share your ideas with teachers from all over the world in many different teaching situations.
